AjPHA members traveled from across the country to attend the 2007 Youth
Leadership Conference, held October 5-6 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Conference speaker Doug Bratton had "j" members participating in written
exercises, games, and group activities that helped them get to know each
other and realize their true potential as leaders of the AjPHA.
Attendees learned many valuable leadership lessons such as goal setting,
team-work, and constructive criticism.

Although there was a lot of learning involved on Friday, conference
attendees were up bright and early on Saturday for a tour of Lexington,
Kentucky. The first stop of the day was at Shadwell Farm's Nashwan
Stud, a thoroughbred breeding farm owned by Sheik Hamdan bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai. One by one, equine racing
superstars such as Jazil and Dayjur were brought out of their stalls and
presented to "j" members.
The next stop of the day was KESMARC, the Kentucky Equine Sports
Medicine and Rehabilitation Center. In addition to a tour of the
facility, attendees observed horses being conditioned in a swimming
pool, water treadmill, solarium, and hyperbaric chamber. Lunchtime was
spent at the Kentucky Horse Park. "J" members toured the breed barns
and the International Museum of the Horse, and met more famous race
horses including John Henry and Cigar. The last stop of the day was the
Keeneland Race Course and the Grade 1, $600,000 Shadwell Turf Mile for
thouroghbred race horses.
