What do you do with your horse?
I show in the American Ranch Horse Association. Rosey and I have achieved the
honors of Top Six PAC (3rd) in APHA as well as High Point Youth and High Point
All Age in both the American Ranch Horse Association and Missouri Ranch Horse
Association. We show in Conformation, Showmanship, Horsemanship, Ranch Riding,
Ranch Reining, Reining, Ranch Cutting, Working Cow Horse, Working Ranch Horse,
Trail, and Ranch Roping.
What are your favorite events/activities with your horse?
My favorite event is Working Cow Horse. I love the challenge of not only guiding
my horse but also that of reading the cow and making sure I complete the pattern
with the necessary precision.
What do you like most about paint horses?
Rosey and her sister Willow have brought a great deal of joy to my life. My
previous horse was a Quarter Horse and he is phenomenal. When I was in search of
my next youth horse, I was introduced to Rosey. She has proven to be a
remarkable all around horse. We have earned 13 Superior titles as Rosey has the
biggest heart, expects as much of herself as I expect of her, and is a horse I
can count on every time. Her consistency is like no other.
What do you like most about AjPHA?
I am not specifically involved in AjPHA, however, I am a member of ARHA, MoRHA,
VolRHA, and am the Vice President of the newly formed Volunteer Youth Ranch
Horse Association. We have great plans and I am looking forward to helping lead
a group of youth to have a voice within an adult association.
What has owning a horse taught you?
Where do I begin – responsibility, attention to detail, organization, work
ethic, consistency, courage, strive for excellence, leadership, compassion,
teamwork, and sportsmanship. Owning a horse has given me an advantage in life!
All of the adjectives that I have used above are necessary to excel in all that
we do.
What would you say to someone who might be interested in owning a paint
horse?
What an excellent choice! There are so many different events and activities that
you can be involved in with your paint horse. In addition to being recognized
for achievements in a wide variety of arenas, there are many life skills to be
learned as well.
What would you say to someone that is thinking about starting to compete
in APHA shows?
Not only is it a great choice to own an American Paint Horse, but in many ways
it is a great association to be a part of. It is important for the premier
associations to recognize other events that their members are involved in
outside of APHA shows. My experience and “resume” would be a perfect example of
that.
In addition to all of what I have mentioned above, I am also the queen for the
Volunteer Ranch Horse Association and will be competing in the ARHA Queen
Contest with my paint mare, Rosey!
